This week the baby is the size of a sweet pea. How cute is that! And I am feeling these hormones. Major mood swings!

Sweet Pea
Today is the first day of Week 6. Which is supposedly the week when morning sickness starts. Well I haven't had any yet but man, I am tired! Now here is something that no doctor or educator told me in all my pre-pregnancy visits. HCG, which is the hormone that kicks in when you are pregnant, (its actually how the home pregnancy tests can tell that you are pregnant) also effects blood sugars, usually making your sugar go high. In my case, my sugars have been pretty high in the morning, over 200 and it takes till about lunch to go down. WHEW! So here is how I am dealing with it, I take 1-2 units extra at breakfast and somedays skip my 10 am snack, and of course drink lots of water. That seems to be helping slightly. High blood sugar is the worst thing for pregnancy, but sometimes there is nothing more you can do - just ride the wave. Take insulin, including the correction factor and check every 2 hours but of course always consult your doctor. Today by sugars have been perfect so maybe the crazy morning highs are over for awhile.
